Cortical Evolution 2026 Conference at Bilbao, Spain

I had a wonderful time attending the Cortical Evolution 2026 conference in Bilbao, Spain. It was a beautiful place for a meeting, and the conference brought together a fantastic community of scientists studying brain development, cortical organization, and evolution from many different perspectives.

I was especially grateful for the opportunity to give a blitz talk and share some of the newest data from our lab on focal cortical dysplasia. It was exciting to present this work to such an engaged audience and to receive helpful feedback and ideas from the community.

The meeting was filled with stimulating science, thoughtful discussions, and many opportunities to reconnect with old friends and meet new colleagues. I especially enjoyed hearing about the latest work across species, systems, and approaches, and thinking about how these different lines of research can help us better understand the development and evolution of the cerebral cortex.
